stop outsourcing your happiness

Yesterday, I shared with you a TEDx Talk video about how many of us search for love and romance to escape looking within for happiness.

Today, I wanted to share a tidbit from another TEDx Talk by Buddhist nun, Gen Kelsang Nyema:

"We need to stop outsourcing our happiness and unhappiness on other people and circumstances."

"Our second job is to cultivate a source of peace and a source of happiness coming from inside our own mind."

Happiness is something that all of us can create within us at any moment in time, regardless of our background and past stories and beliefs.

Happiness is a choice that we make within our own minds.

And I think allowing ourselves to think and feel happy no matter what the external circumstances is ultimate self love.

It's about allowing whatever thoughts and feelings we have about the things going on around us without judging them.

It's about seeing them pass through our minds and bodies as an experience.

It's about ditching the preconceived ideas about whether a thought or feeling is negative or positive.

It's about seeing that all thoughts and feelings are neutral until we put a label on it.

We don't have to see anger and frustration and guilt as negative. They just are.

And we can choose whether we want to continue thinking the same thoughts that are creating the same feelings without labeling them as positive or negative.

It's just a choice.
